No nerves for Charlton Athletic boss Bowyer ahead of Championship D-day at Leeds United

Lee Bowyer says he will not be nervous ahead of Charlton’s Championship D-day clash at Leeds United tomorrow.

The Addicks face the newly-crowned champions at Elland Road on Wednesday night – and could need to win in Yorkshire to ensure they do not get relegated.

Charlton are winless in six league matches but have drawn three of those. Macauley Bonne grabbed a stoppage-time leveller in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Wigan, who are also in drop danger as they are set for a 12-point deduction.

“I don’t really get nervous,” said Bowyer. “I’ve been fortunate to play in some massive, massive occasions and that definitely helps.

“I also know that everything we do, our preparation is spot on. That means when the players go on the pitch they all know their roles and jobs, what is expected of them.

“Some games you win, and some games you lose. But every time they go out there I know they are mentally and physically ready.

“If I showed any nerves then it wouldn’t be any good for the players. I’m always calm and always confident.”
