Non-league round-up: Bromley bring in three new signings but can’t avoid Gateshead defeat

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Bromley lost 2-0 at Gateshead on Saturday as Neil Smith’s frenzied transfer activity at the end of last week did not yield an instant result.

Luke Armstrong and Fraser Kerr netted in either half at The International Stadium.

Bromley are just three points above the National League bottom four but do have a game in hand of 21st-placed Dover Athletic, who occupy the final relegation spot.

The Ravens made three signings at the end of last week. Former West Ham striker Zavon Hines penned a deal after leaving Chesterfield.

And Bromley also snapped up Ebbsfleet attacker Luke Coulson, 24, as well as taking Greenwich-born frontman JJ Hooper on loan from Grimsby Town.

“It looked like we had a 10-hour trip, the way we started. We were leggy, slow – Zavon was a shining light in a difficult game. He wanted to get on the ball and showed a discipline. JJ worked his socks off without any real quality in to him.

“Luke was a bit of a struggle playing out there against a team who are flying at the moment. I don’t want to use the trip as an excuse. We were done by two set-plays, which we have been a little bit slack on of late.

“I’m very disappointed. On previous occasions up here we have shown a lot more. We were a yard off it on Saturday.”

Dulwich Hamlet were beaten 1-0 at Hemel Hempstead Town in National League South.

Gavin Rose’s side are five without a victory in the league and have failed to score in their last three of them.

Tooting & Mitcham moved to within three points of the Isthmian League South Central Division play-offs with a 4-2 home win over Uxbridge.

Stefan Ilic bagged a brace with Danny Bassett and Daryl Coleman also on target.

Reece Deakin also scored twice as Greenwich Borough won 3-1 at East Grinstead Town in the Isthmian League South-East Division. Teshuane Tyreece Walters got their other goal.

Fisher are top of the SCEFL Premier Division – and have a game in hand of second-placed Beckenham Town.

Rob Brown scored both their goals in a 2-1 win over Chatham Town on Saturday.

AFC Croydon and Croydon lost 4-2 and 5-2 to Lordswood and Tunbridge Wells respectively.

Tashan Adenyike bagged a hat-trick in Lewisham Boro’s 5-0 home thumping of Fc Elmstead in the SCEFL First Division. Josh Owen and Michael Daramola also notched.

Forest Hill Park won 1-0 at Meridian VP with Kam Pope-Campbell getting the only goal.
