Non-league round-up: Fisher still firmly in promotion mix after Tobin winner

The 1-0 win over Tunbridge Wells sets them up nicely for tonight’s semi-final clash with table-toppers Corinthian at St Paul’s in the Southern Counties East (SCEFL) Challenge Cup – the sides having drawn 0-0 in the first leg last week.

Fisher sit third in the Premier Division table, four points behind leaders Corinthian, having played a game more, and two behind FA Vase semi-finalists Cray Valley PM.

They travel to mid-table Bearsted next.

In the same division, AFC Croydon Athletic blew a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at Crowborough Athletic.

Dominic Ogun put AFC Croydon ahead after two minutes and Nathan Green doubled the lead five minutes before the interval. But they allowed the home side back into it just before the turnaround and were undone by a goal on the hour and a winner six minutes from time.

And two second half goals from visitors Rusthall downed luckless Croydon, who have now gone eight league games without a win.

Dulwich Hamlet succumbed to an 18th minute penalty from Sam Merson at St Albans City – leaving them still looking over their shoulders as the season enters its final stages.

They are 17th, five points above the relegation zone, with eight games to play in National League South, making Saturday’s home game against Truro City vital. The Cornish side are level on points with Hamlet.

Bromley’s recent struggle for goals was again in evidence at the weekend, when they crashed 3-0 at Dagenham & Redbridge. Former QPR striker Angelo Balanta was among the scorers for the Daggers.

It was their third loss in a row without scoring. They aim to put that right against Chesterfield tonight at Hayes Lane.

Danny Bassett’s last-gasp goal for Tooting & Mitcham United on Saturday could prove vital in their bid for a top-five finish in the Isthmian League South Central Division.

It gave them a 1-1 draw with Westfield, who occupy the last of the play-off berths. The gap between the teams remains six points, but the Terrors have a game in hand.

They travel to second-placed Bracknell Town on Saturday, aiming to extend their current unbeaten run to 12 matches in all competitions.

Elsewhere, in Division One of the SCEFL League, Kaz Bishop’s eighth-minute goal earned Forest Hill Park a 1-1 draw with Sutton Athletic, but Lewisham Borough returned from Rochester United empty-handed after a 4-2 defeat. Kelvin Adjei gave them the lead in the first half, but they trailed 3-1 at the break. Troy Timothy pulled a goal back but Sutton bagged a fourth to kill the contest.

Kennington took a break from SCEFL league action to sharpen their goalscoring claws in a friendly with Tenterden Town. There was a hat-trick for Tom Scorer and two each for Sam Conlon and Josh Hastings in a 9-1 rout.
