O’Gorman still hunting for first win of the year but happy with another podium in European Talent Cup heatwave

Teenage racing sensation, Casey O’Gorman made it four podiums in all classes on the bounce with a superb second place in round five of the European Talent Cup at Catalunya in Spain last weekend.
The Erith schoolboy continued his good form with his new Superhugo 44 team in qualifying, placing his Honda NSF 250R fifth on the grid for the only race of the weekend on the Sunday.
Away from the lights in the 31 degree temperature, O’Gorman made a clean get-away to move upto fourth by the end of the first of 14 laps.
Two laps later and the battle for lead was now between thirteen riders with O’Gorman yo-yoing from third to seventh to second in the blink of an eye.
With the slipstream effect of the huge front straight the youngster slipped back to seventh but quickly slotted back into second showing he could run at the front without assistance.
By mid race you could throw a blanket over the top ten as O’Gorman continued to hold his own.
Five laps to go and it was still anyone’s race though O’Gorman was consistently in the top three boding well for a final lap scrap.
Penultimate lap and O’Gorman had been pushed back in the pack but three corners later he hit the front for the first time.
Crossing the line in first for the start of the final lap meant little as the swarm of slipstreaming Honda’s pushed O’Gorman back to seventh by turn one.
Fighting back into contention, O’Gorman was given a life-line when Dodo Boggio took out Max Quiles and Jesus Torres with only a few corners to go promoting him up to second which he held to line despite the best efforts of Ruche Moodley with Guido Pini taking the win by 0.308 seconds.
The result moved O’Gorman into ninth on 49 points, 75 behind leader Quiles who failed to score.
The next round will take place at Motorland Aragon in Spain on the 6-8 October.
