O’s move for released Charlton Athletic midfielder Darren Pratley – as he links up with former Lions boss Jackett

Darren Pratley has signed for Leyton Orient – and has also been named their new captain.

The experienced midfielder was released by Charlton at the end of the 2020-21 season.

Pratley, 36, has agreed a one-year contract with the option of an extra year.

He will link up again with former Millwall manager Kenny Jackett, who was also his boss at Swansea City.

Pratley has played more than 500 senior matches in his career. Addicks manager Nigel Adkins chose not to offer him new terms along with Andrew Shinnie and Deji Oshilaja.

O’s chief Jackett told the club’s website: “He has got good leaderships skills, not least by being a good player. He is a good athlete. I think he will help us to dominate the midfield. He has experience and leadership and it’s a very good signing for us.”

Pratley added: “I’m delighted. This is a massive club in the division. It’s a local club to me and I’m happy to be here.”
