Podium finish for Horsman at Donington

Chassis Factory / Go Racing Developments SGR Moto2 rider Cameron Horsman, took his second podium of the season in the British GP2 race at Donington National circuit last weekend. He is now fourth in the championship standings with 114 points just five behind the rider in third.

Frustration followed for the Lewisham rider in qualifying as another bike deposited oil on the track, bringing out the red flags meaning Horsman was unable to improve on his grid position of 18th overall and fifth in the British GP2 class.

There had been some drizzle during the day but it was dry by the time the first race of 20 laps got underway.

The Londoner didn’t get away from the grid as well as he would have hoped and dropped behind two of his GP2 rivals, Jones and Archer.

The three raced lap after lap within a few tenths of a second of each other and on lap nine Horsman made his way ahead of Jones to take fourth in the GP2 category before quickly dispatching Archer for third which he held to the flag for his second podium of the season.

Starting 15th on the grid in race two and fourth in the GP2 category Horsman gained three positions off the line and was into third place in the GP2 category by the end of lap two. Fellow GP2 riders Jones and Law were in close attendance.

Seven laps in and Law moved past Horsman and over the final few laps the 21 year old was unable to match the pace of Law and settled for a respectable fourth place finish to add to his podium from the Saturday.

Horsman said, “It was great to return to the podium on Saturday so I must give my team a big thank you for providing me with a competitive bike. Although we didn’t make the podium in Sunday’s race we were the fastest we had been all weekend and we finished eighth in the combined result of Supersport and GP2. So there were plenty of positives to take with us to Cadwell Park.”

The next round of the British GP2 season will be at Cadwell Park from 20 to 22nd August.
