QPR are going through a ‘sticky spell’ says Critchley after draw at Huddersfield

QPR boss Neil Critchley says that his side are going through a ‘sticky spell’ after only picking up a point against relegation-threatened Huddersfield Town.

Jamal Lowe opened the scoring for the west Londoners in the 13th minute after a ball into the box from Ilias Chair led to the ball bouncing just in front of Tomas Vaclik.

The on-loan Bournemouth forward beat the keeper to the ball and nodded QPR into the lead.

Mark Fotheringham’s side drew level in the 39th minute. Ollie Turton reacted quickest inside the area to turn Seny Dieng’s save from a Joseph Hungbo free-kick back along the face of goal for Martyn Waghorn to turn home.

QPR had more shots [11] than the hosts – who had only six – but Critchley’s side could not convert their chances into all three points.

“It was two teams not in a great moment,” admitted the former Blackpool boss.

“I felt we could have really gone and tried to kill the game after the first goal, but we didn’t make use of those chances and missed that opportunity.

“We could have played better football, but over a 46-game season, you have to fight and scrap it out sometimes, and we’ve done that today. It was never free-flowing from us today; if we were playing with confidence, then we would go and finish the game in the first half.

“A point is a fair reflection of the game. It’s been frustrating – we’ve drawn quite a few games, and we could have quite easily won a lot of our games.

“A couple of quick wins changes it very quickly, as momentum’s a big thing in this division. Most teams have a sticky spell – ours is now. It’s just up to us to stick together.”
