QPR boss happy to see his side ‘adapt’ in 2-0 EFL Cup win over Oxford

Mark Warburton was delighted with QPR’s ability to adapt during their 2-0 victory against Oxford United on Tuesday evening.

The R’s are through to the third round of the EFL Cup after goals from Rob Dickie and a Leon Chambers-Parillon own goal secured the victory.

Warburton said: “They were tremendous, they adapted really well. It’s about the squad, it will always be about the squad.

“All credit to the starting 11, and all credit to the young guys who came on off the bench. They came on in a difficult situation and did really well.

“I’m delighted with the squad because they were a tough opponent, they moved the ball really well, they have good quality in their ranks, good blend of youth and experience, and they’re very dangerous.

“It’s about applying ourselves. You can’t talk about having a winning mentality and then say it doesn’t matter if we lose that game.

“We looked comfortable and solid, we got first contact. Took some unnecessary risk if I’m being honest.

“We have to manage games better and take care of the football, but overall it was a really good team performance in front of a really vocal crowd.

“The backing the boys are getting from the crowd is really noticeable and much appreciated.”
