QPR boss left frustrated by spurned chances as Blackpool earn narrow win at Loftus Road
Michael Beale was frustrated with QPR’s inability to take chances after they lost 1-0 against Blackpool at Loftus Road.
The west London side could not back up their late equaliser against Sunderland – which was scored by goalkeeper Seny Dieng.
The R’s started well and nearly took the lead when Tyler Roberts stung the palms of Grimshaw with a low strike.
Just before the half hour mark, QPR should have been ahead, Stefan Johansen pounced on a loose ball to set up Lyndon Dykes but his weak effort was saved.
Just as it normally goes if you don’t take your chances you are punished – that’s exactly how it went when Josh Bowler found space in Rangers’ penalty area and curled an effort straight into the top-left corner.
After the break, new signing Ethan Laird linked up well with Leeds loanee Roberts who once again forced a good save out of Grimshaw.
With 15 minutes to go it could have been 2-0 to the visitors but Laird was there to cut out the danger.
Sinclair Armstrong headed over Albert Adomah’s delivery in the last minute.
Beale said: “We should be two or three up before we go 1-0 down. Then we concede at the worst possible time, right on half-time.
“We spoke about it and said that if we kept playing then opportunities would come, and I felt we did that.
“We threw a lot of energy at it in that second half and were a bit anxious at times. We were a bit loose in possession because of trying so hard and the goal didn’t come.
“If we could score early in the second half then we would be the team with the momentum. We couldn’t find the goal. But we had some fantastic chances early in the game. Ethan flashes one across the six-yard box and we have to score in that moment. Then he pulls one back to Lyndon and I think we need to score in that moment as well.”
