Rotherham United boss expecting tough test at revitalised Charlton Athletic

Rotherham United manager Paul Warne has described Charlton Athletic as “a really good footballing side” ahead of the two clubs clashing at The Valley tomorrow.

The Addicks have won two on the bounce since Johnnie Jackson took caretaker charge following the departure of Nigel Adkins.

Rotherham, relegated from the Championship last season, are on an 11-game unbeaten run which has them firmly in the mix for at least the League One play-offs.

But Warne also expects the South Londoners to still be right in the mix on the home straight.

He said: ”First and foremost, I don’t like to see managers lose their jobs but I understand why it happens. There’s nothing worse than playing a club when they’ve just changed managers.

“I spoke to Lee [Johnson] about them at the weekend because they went up and beat Sunderland at Sunderland. They also beat Donny convincingly at home by more than we did, so I know they’re a very good side.

“They’ve got unbelievable players and because they’ve won back to back, the caretaker will be having his name bandied around for the full-time job and the lads in the team at the moment will want him to get it.

“They’re a really good footballing side and once it clicks they will be right up there.

“They’re getting their season going and it will be a really tough game.”
