Ryan Leonard resumes training as Millwall boss confirms changes will be made to his team for FA Cup clash

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Ryan Leonard has resumed full training for Millwall – although the midfielder looks unlikely to feature in the next couple of fixtures for the club.

The club record signing has been out with a knee injury since October 5.

Leonard had suffered a slight setback which knocked back his original return date.

But Lions boss Gary Rowett said: “We’ve got some quite positive news – Ryan Leonard has trained within the group, slightly modified training for a couple of days as well.

“It’s great to get Lenny back. He’s quite a bit away from being available but it’s good news to see him out there.”

The question is how many changes Rowett will make for Saturday’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Sheffield United at The Den.

“If I play the same team as the last game and then we go to a very good Leeds side on Tuesday and pick exactly the same team then I think it will be really, really difficult because we have got a big cup game and then a big league game.

“I’ve got to make sensible changes. For a lot of games I make two or three changes anyway. I just feel these cup games give you a little breather from the league and also give an opportunity where you can just look at one or two things. For example against Newport we played young Billy [Mitchell]. That’s what these games are about.

“I want to play a strong team but also learn a few things from it.

“I want to get through but it’s a bit of a dilemma. I want to win it, I want to play as good a team as I can. Most teams make some changes and that’s what we’ll look to do.”
