Stephen Henderson training with Charlton Athletic after Crystal Palace exit
Stephen Henderson is training with his former club Charlton Athletic following his release by Crystal Palace.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper has spent the past fortnight with the Addicks, who are local to his home.
Henderson signed for Palace in July 2019 following his departure from Nottingham Forest. The Eagles let him go at the end of the 2020-21 Premier League campaign – he made two senior appearances for them.
Henderson played 54 times in the Championship for Charlton after joining them in the summer of 2014. He was a free agent after his West Ham contract expired.
The Addicks are believed to be in the market for a stopper to be back up to first choice Craig MacGillivray. Ashley Maynard-Brewer has joined Ross County on loan, with manager Nigel Adkins wanting the highly-rated young Australian to play regular first-team football to aid his development.
Henderson is understood to have good links still at Charlton and that has given him the chance to hone his match sharpness and fitness as he looks for the next stop in his career.
Henderson has clocked up 182 games with 12 different clubs – including West Ham, Ipswich and Portsmouth.
