Sunderland keeper set for AFC Wimbledon medical

Alex Bass is set for a medical at AFC Wimbledon this afternoon ahead of a season-long loan move from Championship side Sunderland.

We reported yesterday that the Dons were weighing up a move for the former Portsmouth stopper.

Bass joined Sunderland last season on a three-year deal.

However, the keeper only made two cup appearances for the Black Cats, with England youngster Anthony Patterson the regular number one between the sticks at the Stadium of Light.

The 25-year-old was left out of Tony Mowbray’s 26-man squad ahead of Sunderland’s pre-season tour of the USA.

The 6ft 3in stopper has had loan spells at Salisbury, Torquay, Southend and Bradford during his career.
