Surrey CCC announce £5.4m pre-text profit for 2021-22 financial year

Surrey County Cricket Club have announced a profit before tax of £5.4million for the 2021-22 financial year.

The previous 12 months saw a Covid-19 induced loss of £1.2m. Prior to this, the club had recorded record profits in the 2019-20 financial year.

Due to Surrey CCC’s legal structure as a members’ club, all money made is retained to be spent within the club, continually improving The Kia Oval, building improved player pathways and talent ID programmes, bolstering financial reserves and expanding the Club’s commitment to sustainability and the local community.

It was also decided that the profits allowed the club to repay the Covid-19 furlough programme money it received during the 2020-21 financial year.

Two former Surrey players, Arun Harinath and Chris Thompson – both of whom originally graduated from the Surrey Academy – have been elected to serve a four year term on the Surrey CCC General Committee, alongside Laura Rolles and David Gill.

Harinath played 70 games for Surrey between 2009 and 2018, scoring 3,795 runs for the club. After retirement, he now works in the business of sport and sits as a trustee of the Surrey Cricket Foundation. Thompson represented England U19 and played second-11 cricket for Surrey from 2004 to 2006 and again in 2012. He made his first-class debut for Leicestershire in 2009 and has played club cricket in Surrey for the last decade.

Laura Rolles is a Surrey fan, scorer at Chiswick CC and is involved with the ECB Association of Cricket Officials. David Gill is a former member of the Surrey CCC Management Board and has been deeply involved with community sport throughout the county of Surrey.

Surrey CCC chairman Richard Thompson said: “These are outstanding results and the club and its members should be very proud of the resilience that was shown throughout the Covid19 pandemic.

“Given the first two matches at The Kia Oval last season were hosted behind closed doors, to bounce back and record a profit of more than £5m is over and above what we expected and serves as testament to hard work and dedication of our fantastic staff.

“I would also like to welcome Urvasi, Rob and Laura to the Club – and welcome back Arun, Chris and David. It’s vitally important to have a high class engaged board and General Committee and I have every confidence these six individuals will help us do just that. Finally, I would like to pay tribute to Ian Jamieson, who has given sixteen years of loyal service to Surrey CCC and played a key role in helping the Club get to where we are today.”
