Surrey seamers impress Overton as they ease to win at in-form Somerset
Surrey maintained their lead in Division One of the County Championship by rolling over an in-form Somerset side with a day and 10 wickets to spare at Taunton last week.
Fast bowler Jamie Overton puts the Oval outfit’s dominance down to the way he and his fellow seamers hunt as a pack – revealing that Somerset’s Tom Kohler-Cadmore agrees.
“It’s always a bit strange coming back to play where your roots are, but it has been a great three days for the team,” said Overton, who swapped Somerset for Surrey three years ago.
“It’s another good win to keep us top of the table. We have a five-strong seam attack. Tom Kohler-Cadmore was saying the other day that all of them would get into any strong county side.
“If one is having a bad day, the other four pick up the slack and try to make something happen. That is one of our strong points.
“It was important to get a win going into the break from Championship cricket and we will come back strongly for the final games.
“We also pride ourselves on making big first innings runs and it has served us well again here. Last season we got over 350 in every game.
“I feel a bit tired after playing three games on the bounce following no four-day cricket since September. But I am in a good place going into The Hundred and then trying to help Surrey win the title again.”
