Swansea boss Russell Martin claims his side “dominated” at Den and did not deserve to lose

Swansea manager Russell Martin felt his side did not deserve to lose at Millwall.

The Lions collected maximum points after a 2-1 victory at The Den.

Charlie Cresswell and Andreas Voglsammer were on the scoresheet although the former is set to see his goal taken off him with Tom Bradshaw claiming it came off his calf.

Voglsammer’s strike looked a routine save for Swansea keeper Andy Fisher but zipped past him.

Ashley Grimes’ deflected shot capped a frantic opening 13 minutes of the second period after a first half which had little goalmouth incident.

“We played brilliantly tonight,” said Martin. “We dominated the game in pretty much every facet – more chances, more of the ball and limited them to very little really. We’ve been undone by a long throw and a mistake.

“Really frustrated, really hurt but really proud of the way the players played. It’s felt like the last few games have been slowly coming back to life, in  terms of how we want the game to look and the courage they are being asked to show. That confidence has been building up, slowly but surely, after a really tough period.

“It’s not an easy place to come tonight, at all, one of the best home forms in the league. They are fifth in the league now. So I am really pleased with the performance and really disappointed with the result, because I don’t think it is what we deserved.

“He (Fisher) has no choice but to accept what has happened and come through this period. Losing Steven (Benda) was a big blow for us. Fish played really well on Saturday. It’s a tough time. He’s taken a lot of criticism – social media and all that stuff is not easy for players. We didn’t sign another goalkeeper in January, so there is a lot of pressure on him. We have to find a way to get him through it, and we will. He will be better for this period in the long term.”
