That’s the worst we’ve played since I’ve been in charge – Charlton boss Lee Bowyer unhappy after Addicks fall to defeat at Wigan

Lee Bowyer said that Charlton put in the worst performance of his managerial tenure during the 2-0 defeat at Wigan.
A goal in either half from defender Chey Dunkley downed the South Londoners – with both strikes coming from corners that the Addicks failed to defend.
Home goalkeeper David Marshall was forced into a couple of saves late on but Charlton were unable to make the chances they created count.
“Disappointing is an understatement,” explained the Addicks boss, whose side have now lost two in a row after going undefeated in the opening six games of the season.
“That’s the worst we’ve played since I’ve been in charge. First forty-five minutes was so bad. We couldn’t put three passes together – that isn’t us. To lose the game on two set-pieces, that also isn’t us. We normally defend so well on set-pieces. Their centre-half scores two goals – a volley from inside the six-yard box, that shouldn’t be possible. Then a free header from inside the six-yard box, shouldn’t be possible.
“I’m really disappointed. We created chances, enough chances to get something from the game for sure. But we’re just not ruthless enough in front of goal today. Last week was the same. Their keeper made some great saves. We should have had a penalty for a foul on Naby in second-half. But for me, just not good from start to finish. There’s no positives really. That’s the worst we’ve played since I’ve been in charge and it’s not good enough.
“We’re still creating chances but not taking them. We had enough chances to win the game last week. Today, I think Tom Lockyer could have had a hat-trick. We have to be more ruthless. It’s as simple as that. For as bad as we played, we still should have got something out the game.”
