Wally Downes says AFC Wimbledon’s players will always be there to pay back the fans – with tomorrow’s home game against Bristol Rovers a sell-out.
The Dons are only in the League One relegation zone on goal difference.
Downes said: “We’ve tried to reconnect with the fans because there was a disconnect before.
“The team laid on some buses against Shrewsbury and the fans really appreciated that.
“They have sold out this weekend and we have sold out for our last game. Saturday is an open day for young kids – they can meet the players and mix with the players.
“They paid for the coaches – great – but you see that when something happens and then you don’t do anything else. I think it’s an ongoing process with the fans. We expect them to come and support – they keep the club going. There is plenty of room for players to be doing stuff for the fans as well.
“I don’t see it as a one-off thing. Whenever we can do something I’ll make sure the players are engaging in it.”
