“We just don’t get them” – AFC Wimbledon boss bemused after being denied penalty shout during Walsall loss

BY MITCHELL HALL
Johnnie Jackson felt his AFC Wimbledon side were once again denied a big penalty decision during their 1-0 loss to Walsall in Saturday’s League Two clash at Plough Lane.
The Dons were hunting for the opening goal in the 29th minute when Omar Bugiel appeared to be bundled over from behind in the opposition box.
Referee James Durkin did not see it that way and waved away the home side’s appeals for a penalty, barely five minutes after having ignored a near identical foul on Bugiel just outside the penalty area.
Walsall’s Nathan Lowe would later go on to open the scoring early in the second half and hand his side a narrow victory.
“It’s a penalty, he gets pushed in the back in the box,” said Jackson. “This is getting boring as well because we just don’t get them for some reason. I can’t remember the last time we had one.

“I can’t quite understand it really because there are some real obvious ones like today.
“It was a tight game, you need those little things to go your way to get the result.
“Some things we can control, we can defend better, we can take the chance when it comes along, and other stuff is obviously out of our hands.
“Maybe we’ve got to make more of a fuss. I don’t want to be a fussy team but we’ve got to look at that because we’re getting penalty shouts turned down all the time.”
