‘We will monitor that’ – AFC Wimbledon boss undecided on forward loan exit

Johnnie Jackson has not ruled out a possible loan for Aron Sasu – but insisted he will not let the 18-year-old head out if it leaves AFC Wimbledon’s attacking options short in the second half of the season.

The Croydon-born forward has featured 24 times this season under the former Charlton manager and scored his first goal in the 5-2 EFL Trophy win over Portsmouth.

Sasu penned his first professional deal in the summer and impressed over pre-season.

Wimbledon lost Ali Al-Hamadi in January but signed Josh Kelly from Solihull and also have Josh Neufville, John-Kymani Gordon, Ronan Curtis, Ryan McLean, James Tilley, Omar Bugiel, Josh Davison and Harry Pell in the forward and wide areas.

Sasu was absent from the matchday squad that claimed a point in a 0-0 draw at Bradford last weekend.

“The National League window is open for another month,” Jackson told the South London Press.

“We will monitor that.

“If Sas struggles to get involvement and minutes – obviously he wasn’t involved on Saturday – and if we feel it’s the right thing to do, like it was with Morgan Williams, Paris Lock and Ryan McLean, then we will do that.

“But he has been involved probably more than any of us thought this season.

“What we won’t do is leave ourselves short – he’s a good attacking option. But we have got a lot of options in that area of the pitch.

“Josh Neufville will be coming back hopefully in a couple of weeks – which adds another one.

“We will look at it closer to the National League window closing and we’ll see.

“It was the plan for him to go out on loan at the start of the season to play, but he did so well during pre-season and early on with us, that we felt as though we had to keep him around it.

“We will keep looking at it.”
