‘We’re starting to build the walls’ – Oliver Glasner sees Crystal Palace progress in Man City defeat

Oliver Glasner admitted he was disappointed for his Crystal Palace squad after they failed to pick up any points in their 4-2 defeat at home to champions Manchester City on Saturday.

However, the Austrian boss can see improvements despite Palace now being winless in their last five outings under him.

The Eagles took the lead early on after just three minutes at Selhurst Park when Adam Wharton played through Jean-Phillipe Mateta to net his seventh Premier League of the season.

But a brace from Kevin De Bruyne and goals from Rico Lewis and Erling Haaland gave the visitors all three points.

Odsonne Edouard scored late on for the Eagles as they suffered back-to-back defeats under Glasner for the first time.

The South Londoners are just five points above the bottom three after Everton and Luton both picked up three points on Saturday.

Glasner said: “I’m a little bit sad for the players because they invested so much today.

“They created good opportunities.

“We have to accept that playing Man City is not that easy.

“Our challenge is to keep this physical and mental level for 95 minutes.

“It’s not easy. You always have to be focused, but when you get tired, you lose focus.

“I don’t want to talk about it when we lose 4-2, but we’re starting to build a basement of what we want to do.

“It’s not really nice to live in the basement. We’r starting to build the walls and let the sun in and feel for comfortable to be in the basement.

“It’s good to see the players adapt and progress in many situations.

“The result is disappointing again and results are important, but it’s good for me to see the players progressing.”
