West Ham activate clause to extend deal of Josh Cullen – with on-loan Charlton man outlining future intentions

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Josh Cullen has revealed that his West Ham United contract now runs until the summer of 2021 – making a permanent deal to Charlton that much trickier.

The 23-year-old is on loan to the Championship side and he was due to be a free agent at the start of July.

But Cullen’s extension means any move for the Republic of Ireland international is a lot more expensive.

Not only would West Ham want a fee but his wages have also jumped – standard practise when a clause like this kicks in.

“I have an option year at West Ham that has been triggered,” said Cullen. “The club have triggered that.

“We’ll see what happens next year. I’ve always said with these loans that the long term aim is to improve and go back and play for West Ham.

“While I’m still contracted to West Ham that will always be the aim.”
