Will Thomas Sandgaard appoint a new CEO? Charlton owner answers that question

Charlton owner Thomas Sandgaard has no plans to appoint a chief executive in the immediate future.

The Danish businessman, who is based in Colorado, is CEO – a position that had not been filled since Katrien Meire left in 2017 – and a director of the Addicks.

Leo Rifkind, a lawyer at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, was appointed as a non-executive director in March. Sandgaard used the law firm when he was acquiring Charlton 12 months ago.

Sandgaard has added Ged Roddy and Wayne Mumford as technical director and commercial director since buying Charlton a year ago.

“We’re building a management team that is clicking well and moving forward,” said Sandgaard, when asked about bringing in a CEO. “We see significant improvements all the time, so I’m comfortable where it is.

“Long term, I can’t be here all the time and someone will have to take that part of what I do here. Regardless, I know I will always be very involved in the club, no matter how we set up a management structure.”
