Wimbledon mourn the loss of Joe Kinnear after former boss dies aged 77
AFC Wimbledon described Joe Kinnear as a “true legend” after their former manager passed away at 77 following a long battle with dementia.
On Sunday, the Kinnear family said in a statement: “We are sad to announce that Joe passed away peacefully this afternoon surrounded by his family.”
The Dublin-born defender, who spent the majority of his playing career with Tottenham Hotspur, spent seven years with the Dons after taking over in 1992 – inheriting the ‘Crazy Gang’.
He guided the South Londoners to a sixth-place finish in his second full season in charge at the club and also notched up two more top-10 finishes.
Kinnear, who also managed Newcastle, Luton and Nottingham Forest, picked up the LMA Manager of the Year award in 1994 for taking Wimbledon to the top six.
On their social media account, the Dons thanked Kinnear for the “amazing memories” and described him as a “true legend”.
