Women’s football round-up: Crystal Palace boost Championship title prospects

Crystal Palace have their FA Women’s Championship title destiny in their own hands after a 5-1 thumping of Durham on Sunday.

A brace from Annabel Blanchard and goals from Molly Mae-Sharpe, Elise Hughes and Shanade Hopcroft moved the Eagles to the top of the table for a handful of hours.

Sunderland moved back into top spot after their 3-0 win at Watford, but Laura Kaminski’s side have a game in hand over the Black Cats and crucially host them at Selhurst Park on the final day of the season.

Charlton Athletic moved up to fourth and kept the pressure on the top three after a 3-1 win at home to Birmingham City.

Goals from Karin Muya, Freda Ayisi and Kate Longhurst gave the Addicks all three points as they bounced back from the previous weekend’s disappointing 2-1 defeat at London City.

Charlton have a game in hand alongside Palace but are four points off leaders Sunderland.

AFC Wimbledon Women edged closer to claiming the National League Division One South East title after a 2-2 draw at home to Norwich.
Ashleigh Goddard’s strike deflected off a Norwich defender to give Wimbledon the lead midway through the first half. Ashlee Hincks doubled their advantage before half-time.

Norwich scored two in the second half to make sure the points were shared, but the Dons stayed 10 points clear of their only title contender, with the Canaries having two games in hand. Wimbledon have three games left to play this season.
