Swindon Town powerless to prevent Charlton from landing star winger Jaiyesimi

Swindon Town assistant manager Tommy Wright has revealed that Charlton activated a release clause in Diallang Jaiyesimi’s contract.

The 22-year-old just about beat the transfer deadline to sign for the Addicks late on Monday night.

But Wright says they were powerless to block the former Dulwich Hamlet and Norwich City winger’s transfer.

Charlton paid a six-figure sum for the Southwark-born attacker.

Wright told the Swindon Advertiser: “The thing with DJ was, he had a clause in his contract for a certain amount of money that if it was met, he could leave.

“There was nothing we could do about it. The thing I would say is that we didn’t want to lose him, but once that clause was met by another club, he could leave.

“What I would say in our defence is, we got DJ on a free, we’ve worked very hard on him, he’s improved and done very well for the club.

“The club has had a major, major investment for the time and the work that we’ve put into him.”
