Where to watch London’s New Year’s Eve fireworks for free

London’s tradition of a firework show to ring in the new year is back after a two year hiatus.

On New Year’s Eve, a spectacular fireworks show will once more illuminate the city from the London Eye at South Bank after a two year gap because of Covid.

More than 100,000 people are expected to gather near the London Eye to welcome in the new year.

Tickets are now sold out for the event but there are plenty of other places around the capital where you can see the magic for free, along with the millions of people watching on TV.

For those lucky enough to nab a ticket, viewing access will stretch from Victoria Embankment to Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge. An accessible viewing area will be on Albert Embankment.

In South London, Greenwich Park and Telegraph Hill will be the best places to pitch up and see the show for free.

London’s bridges, such as Vauxhall Bridge and Southwark Bridge should offer a good viewing vantage as well.

If you want to be as close as possible to the action without a ticket, Cannon Street is just outside the ticketed zone between St Paul’s Cathedral, Mansion House and Bank.

It provides the perfect riverside view, but make sure to get there early as it will be very busy.

Primrose Hill is one of the highest points in London, located on the north side of Regent’s Park with a splendid view of Central London.

Hampstead Heath is another well-known viewing spot in North London, specifically on Parliament Hill. It is a spacious area and worth being further away for the views.

Central London will be very busy on New Year’s Eve so make sure to plan ahead for all travel.
