QPR manager Mark Warburton can’t explain slack showing as Preston take the points

Mark Warburton was at a loss to explain QPR’s poor showing as Preston North End inflicted a first home defeat of the season.

Lee Wallace (pictured below) gave away two penalties – converted by Daniel Johnson and Scott Sinclair – as the west Londoners drop to 16th in the Championship standings.

Rangers manager Warburton said: “The preparation was good, we had the extra day – Wednesday as opposed to Tuesday – the players trained well, the focus was good and analysis was good.

“We were very confident. The way we started supported that. But the intensity dipped out of the game. We have to react better to a negative.

“There’s no excuses – we gave away a really sloppy penalty. It shouldn’t happen, simple as that.

“It knocked the wind out of their sails and I don’t know why. We had a few words at half-time but again we’ve given away a penalty where the ball’s travelled 80 yards in the air and we’ve just got to make first contact and pick up second ball.

“Once you’ve let it bounce in your area – all sorts of problems. Lee’s adamant he pulled his foot away and the guy’s gone down. Well if he’s clever, he’s clever – he’s got his rewards.

“The fact is we allowed it to happen and we didn’t show enough quality. Albert [Adomah] was devastated at the end that he didn’t score – that would have made it 1-1.

“It’s very frustrating. If a team cuts you open with quality you say fair enough – but we’ve given away two awful penalties that were easily avoidable.

“We’ve dropped three valuable points.”
