Six-year-old Bromley schoolgirl lands job as Aldi’s Chief Easter Egg Tasting Officer

By Toby Porter

The best things in life are free, but for a youngster, any pocketmoney usually goes on chocolate.

So schoolgirl Coco Baptist, 6, from Shortlands Road, Bromley, looks set to make a few savings this Easter.

The aptly-named choice has beaten over 300 applicants to land the sweet role of Aldi’s Chief Easter Egg Tasting Officer.

The position sees the mini staff member given free Aldi Easter eggs in exchange for providing feedback on the range, including the brand’s back-breaking and stomach-testing Giant Dragon Egg.

Her review videos, which are being aired across Aldi’s social media channels, will also help to inform Aldi’s chocolate buying team planning for the supermarket’s 2022 chocfest, their Easter egg range.

To land the role, Coco – who has an older brother Leo, 9 – submitted a two-minute video entry, for which she sampled Aldi’s Dairyfine Mini Mixups to showcase her tasting capabilities.  Judges found the entry to be ‘enthusiastic’ and ‘charming’, with Coco displaying a ‘natural ease in front the camera’ whilst rating the eggs from 1-10.

Coco said: “I really wanted to give my honest opinion, so I rated Aldi’s mini eggs from 1-10, from awful to amazing. The popping candy egg was nice but it was also a bit strange – it felt like there were little explosions in my mouth.

“My favourite was the cookies & cream egg – it was so nice, I gave it a 10. My least favourite was the toffee egg, which got just 3 points.”

Coco’s parents, Kellie and Beau Baptist said: “We are very proud of Coco landing the role, but it’s no surprise to us at all. She is extremely lively, bold and spirited – and cannot wait to get started.”

Julie Ashfield, managing director of Buying at Aldi UK, says: “We’re delighted to recruit Coco as one of our three chief Easter Egg tasting officers.

“Hopefully children find the videos useful when deciding which eggs to ask their parents for this Easter – and I’m sure our buying teams will certainly find her reviews helpful too.”
