Former Charlton player Scott Minto helps launch Orpington Rovers partnership with Bromley charity

Former Charlton Athletic defender Scott Minto has helped launch Orpington Rovers’ three-year partnership with Bromley Y, a leading children and young person mental health charity.

Minto, who hosted Charlton TV last season, started his career at Orpington.

The Bromley Y logo will be on the shirt sleeve of every Rovers player from next season, with further visibility at the club’s ground.

Bromley Y will offer workshops to the members of Orpington Rovers FC giving guidance and advice to support the children and the parents on enhancing and supporting young people’s overall wellbeing. With a specific focus on how to tackle difficult topics and overcoming worries and anxieties.

Minto said: “As a player and as a parent, I have experienced first-hand the positive impact that sport has on a person’s emotional well-being.

“This partnership is a fantastic step forward for the club, and it could not come at a better time. I’m excited to see how the partnership evolves and the changes and impact we can make together.”

Gill Allen, director at Bromley Y, said. “Lockdown has affected many young people in many ways, and we have most definitely seen an increase in families seeking out help. This new partnership with Orpington Rovers means that, together, we can use the power of sport and physical activity to raise awareness, tackle mental health stigmas.  By reaching out and supporting more children and young poeple in Bromley with mental health challenges we can offer advice on self-care to benefit all, to hopefully prevent more young people from reaching crisis point.

“Sport has such a positive impact on a person’s overall wellbeing, both physically and mentally – it increases self-esteem, helps with body image issues, and reduces depression and anxiety.  We are therefore delighted to kick off this partnership with Orpington Rovers FC and look forward to the new season and working together for the next three years.”
