A chance to get vaccinated in Downham now jab hub has moved

Residents can get vaccinated against Covid-19 after the opening of a new centre.

The Downham Covid Vaccination Centre, which was previously based at Downham Health and Leisure Centre, has now moved to Goldsmiths Community Centre at Castillon Road.

The centre was launched on Monday 10 January 2022, with the opening ceremony attended by the Mayoresses of Lewisham, Dawn Atkinson, Natasha Ricketts and Christina Norman.

Dawn Atkinson, who is also a Covid-19 vaccinator and care co-ordinator, said: “The new site at Goldsmiths Community Centre is great news for everyone, enabling local people to have even more opportunities to be vaccinated and boosted.

“We’ve previously been operating from Downham Health and Leisure Centre, where the team have carried out an amazing vaccination drive. Everyone at Downham has worked incredibly hard, and the community has been supportive and responsive in coming forward to receive their jabs.

“But now we’ve moved, the Downham Health and Leisure Centre can return to its normal business, while we focus on continuing to get even more people vaccinated at Goldsmiths Community Centre.”

Both the AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines are available at Goldsmiths. The centre offers a mixture of booked appointments and a walk-in facility with no appointment needed. The clinic is available for anyone aged 16 and older (Pfizer vaccine), while those aged 40 and older can receive the AstraZeneca vaccine.

First and second and booster jabs are available to those who are eligible and there is no need for proof of address, immigration status, ID, or an NHS number.

Dawn added: “At the moment, our focus in on vaccinations – including flu jabs – but in the near future, we’re also planning to offer health checks at Goldsmiths, which will help to keep people well and offer advice and guidance on maintaining wellbeing.”

The Goldsmiths Community Centre is run by Sevenfields Primary Care Network (PCN) which comprises six local practices in the Downham/Grove Park area.
