‘Wrong decision’ – Peterborough chief adamant Palace loanee should have been sent off in Charlton draw

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony believed that Jesurun Rak-Sakyi “hooked” Josh Knight and should have been sent off in their goalless draw with Charlton Athletic.

The Crystal Palace loanee Rak-Sakyi and Posh defender Josh Knight came together in the 52nd minute at Weston Homes Stadium.

Referee Andrew Kitchen sent off Knight and only issued the 20-year-old winger with a yellow card.

Detailing the incident on his podcast – The Hard Truth – Inside the Football Industry with Darragh MacAnthony – the Posh chief said: “Josh Knight has stamped out in the melee.

“He shouldn’t have stamped out – it’s a red card for him.

“The Charlton player basically has hooked him – everyone can see it.

“The Charlton manager has made comments afterwards which are f*****g nonsense – be a man and admit it’s a red card for your player.

“It was a red card for their player. You can blame the referee and everything else, but it’s the linesman who comes over. The ref took his time – which I liked.

“When I watched it, I thought: ‘They’re down to 10.’

“Their player doesn’t get a red. And then the game is finished – it’s a s**t game.

“They didn’t hammer us – our goalie didn’t have a save to make. We had the best chances to win the game. If it’s 11 v 11, we win the game.

“We weren’t great – we were a bit lethargic in the first half. If the same 11 who played against Plymouth started that game, we would have won comfortably.

“I had a ref and his linesman who told my manager afterwards that it didn’t happen and they didn’t see it.

“I don’t know if the manager has had an apology yet, but I’ll let everyone else deal with that. I’ll let the head of the referees and the people assessing the game deal with that.

“It was the wrong decision, and at this level, we can’t be having decisions like that.

“We either leave both on the pitch or we red card both of them. I would rather both stay on the pitch.

“I always want 11 v 11.”
