Charlton Athletic’s home form has dipped – but boss Dean Holden sees positives in 1-1 draw against play-off chasing Wycombe

Dean Holden focused on the fact that his Charlton Athletic side are unbeaten in four League One matches after today’s 1-1 draw with Wycombe Wanderers.

The Addicks were on course to record a third straight win on the spin for the first time since October, Miles Leaburn finishing from close range from Albie Morgan’s cross.

But the home team were left to settle for a point when Chris Forino emphatically headed home from Joe Jacobson’s corner.

The result leaves Charlton 12th in the standings.

They have taken two points from their last five home matches in SE7 and have won two of their last 12 there, drawing four and losing six.

Charlton have not won in five games at The Valley. Their last maximum points haul coming in the 2-0 win over Barnsley on January 14.

“We’re four unbeaten after that slippy patch we went through against teams higher in the division,” said Holden.  “Coming into this period, there were a lot of questions about the fact we hadn’t picked up points against teams below us. We rectified that, going into this one.

“Wycombe are a team on the cusp of the play-offs and they are bringing off a forward and bringing on a centre-back towards the end, going to a back five, because they want to come here and take a point.

“That tells you everything you need to know about the game. The performance levels were good. Of course we’re always looking to improve, and of course we’re disappointed how we conceded the goal, but ultimately you can only really control your performance.

“It’s one of the better performances we’ve had at home in recent times and we need to make that the same again next weekend against Shrewsbury.”
