Motorcyclist dies after collision with car that shut major road

A motorcyclist died after a collision with a car early this morning, causing a major road to close in both directions.

Police were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a motorbike in Croydon Road near the junction of Groveland Road, Beckenham, at around 6.50am.

Emergency services attended the scene and found a man, aged in his 40s, with serious injuries.

Despite their best efforts, he sadly died at the scene. His family has been informed.

The driver of the car sustained minor injuries. There have been no arrests at this point.

A spokesman for the Met said: “Officers from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command are carrying out enquiries to find out more about the incident.

“The road is currently closed in both directions and drivers are advised to avoid the area as there are significant delays.

“Any witnesses are asked to call 101 quoting CAD 944/30Oct.”
