Millwall boss expecting tough test at Ipswich – 3-0 defeat to Coventry won’t stop playing change process

Millwall head coach Joe Edwards says he will stick to the plan of evolving his side’s style of play.

The 37-year-old boss was victorious in his first game in charge – 4-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday – but his Den bow ended in a 3-0 reverse against Coventry on Saturday afternoon.

“We won’t start coming away from the plan and the idea of where we want to take this team,” said Edwards.
“Every game is a process of sticking with our principles in what we want to keep adding to the team.
“With every game you look at the opponent and respect what they are. Is it a home or away game? You factor in how that will change the game. We had 60 per cent ball possession today (Saturday) as the home team.”
Millwall head to second-placed Ipswich on Wednesday evening.
“I don’t envisage us going to Portman Road and having loads of the ball,” said Edwards. “I know physically it will be a tough shift because I watch Ipswich and they work.
“It’s no surprise to me they are doing as well as they are in the league because they work hard. This is very early on in a new journey for us, every game we have I’m getting to know the players and the team. With everything we see we try and look to improve.”
