Player ratings from Crystal Palace’s 1-1 draw against Luton – Another late goal denies Eagles all three points

Crystal Palace conceded another late goal at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon as Luton denied Oliver Glasner’s side all three points with a 96th minute equaliser.

The Eagles took the lead through Jean-Philippe Mateta but Cauley Woodrow met Andros Townsend’s cross with the last kick of the game to snatch a point.

Here are Edmund Brack’s player ratings from SE25.

SAM JOHNSTONE – 6

Could do nothing about Luton’s equaliser.

Good stop to stand tally to deny Carlton Morris’ shot in the 66th minute.

DANIEL MUNOZ – 7

Brilliant work to capitalise on a mistake at the back from Luton and race past Thomas Kaminski to set up the opener for Mateta.

Completed both of his dribbles and contributed well going forward. Will be a key part of Oliver Glasner’s side for the future.

JOEL WARD – 6

Stopped Tahith Chong from getting a cross in as the former Manchester United youth team player looked to find an equaliser in the first half.

Won both of his two tackles attempted.

JOACHIM ANDERSEN – 6

Did well to win possession back in his own half and create an attacking phase of play for Mateta and Ayew.

Closed Morris down to stop the Luton forward from crossing in the 68th minute.

Made five clearances – the second most of any Palace player.

CHRIS RICHARDS – 6

Excellent slide tackle to stop Jordan Clark as he was advancing towards goal.

Did well to stop Carlton Morris from finding a Luton player inside the area as he closed in on goal.

Another strong performance at the back, winning seven clearances and completing three blocks.

However, Woodrow escaped his marking in the last second of the game and met Andros Townsend’s cross to equalise.

TYRICK MITCHELL – 7

Had a real battle up against Manchester City loanee Issa Kabore.

Played a great cross along the face of goal in the 72nd minute.

Took his time and found Mateta a few minutes later with a well-placed cross, but the French forward’s effort was somehow kept out by Kaminski.

Nearly wrapped up the game with his effort in the 90th minute.

JEFFERSON LERMA – 6

Was brought down in the 26th minute by Issa Kabore, with the Man City loanee booked for his challenge on the edge of the box.

Won three of his four tackles.

ADAM WHARTON – 7

Completed 100 per cent of his 28 passes, and the game changed when the former Blackburn Rovers midfielder was subbed off.

EBERECHI EZE – 6

Booked for a needless foul on Reece Burke.

Picked up the ball on the egde of the box in the 59th minute. Jinked one way and then the other before shooting at Kaminski.

Came so close to scoring from just inside the Luton half when he spotted Kaminski off his line, but the ball went just over the crossbar.

JORDAN AYEW – 5

Had a shot in the 39th minute that was comfortable for Kaminski.

Was replaced in the 69th minute by Naouirou Ahamada after being unable to really contribute in an attacking way.

Lost possession six times – the most of any Palace player.

JEAN-PHILIPPE MATETA – 7

The French forward gave Palace the early lead with a classy backheel.

He had a chance to double his tally and Palace’s lead before half-time when he collected a back pass inside the penalty area, but Kaminski forced the 26-year-old wide, and he shot just wide.

Forced Kaminski into a great save in the 73rd minute after he met Mitchell’s cross inside the area.

SUBS

NAOUIROU AHAMADA – 5

Rushed miss on the rebound from Mateta’s saved effort.

Lost possession four times during his substitute appearance.

ODSONNE EDOUARD – 6

Did well and came close to sealing all three points when his effort from the edge of the box shaved the crossbar.

WILL HUGHES – 5

Did not have a real impact on the game.

Saturday’s game saw Palace participate in the Level Playing Field’s Unite for Access campaign, raising awareness and driving equality for a more inclusive matchday experience for disabled sports fans.
