Millwall pulled back deeper into the Championship relegation scrap after loss at Rotherham United

Neil Harris accused his Millwall side of “throwing it away” after they were beaten by bottom club Rotherham United on Easter Monday.

The Lions are four points clear of the Championship bottom three but head to Huddersfield, who occupy the final drop spot, on Saturday in a high-pressure encounter.

Sebastian Raven opened the scoring for the Millers before substitute Ryan Longman levelled.

Former Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke’s header four minutes from time handed Leam Richardson just his second league win in charge of the South Yorkshire club and their first three points since a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough on Boxing Day.

“Rotherham haven’t won that game today – we’ve lost it, we’ve thrown it away,” said a frustrated Harris.

“The first half was very scrappy.

“We had the defining moments of the first half and we should have been in front.

“To concede like we did was poor. The second goal was a really poor one to give away. The first one is a good strike – but we needed to do more to stop the shot.

“We threw caution to the wind with the changes, they made a real impact.

“We get ourselves back on level terms and we had five or six golden opportunities to get in front and we’re just not clinical enough or ruthless enough. The nature of the squad is not clinical enough or aggressive enough to put the ball in the net and it comes back and bites you.

“We made enough chances to win two or three games of football. We are talking about golden chances, clear cut chances as well, the quality of players we have, we need to put the ball in the goal.

“We haven’t scored enough goals all season.

“We could have won by two or three goals today but if you aren’t going to be ruthless enough in front of goal, you must be ruthless at the other end and while we have been since my arrival…today we weren’t. Today we didn’t do enough as a unit to keep the ball out of the net.”
