Lions boss explains former Fulham defender’s absence from Den lap of appreciation

Joe Bryan was not part of Millwall’s lap of appreciation after Saturday’s 1-0 win over Plymouth as he recovered from surgery.

The former Fulham and Bristol City defender, 30, signed for the Lions in the summer.

Bryan has made 23 Championship appearances this season but not featured since the 1-1 draw against West Brom at the end of March.

He was an unused substitute against Cardiff but did not make the matchday squad for the two most recent fixtures.

“Joe had a hernia op and some groin surgery as well,” Millwall head coach Neil Harris told the South London Press. “Joe had surgery on Thursday, so he wasn’t at the game Saturday because he hadn’t been out of hospital more than 24 hours.

“Joe will take some rest and recuperation time. We got it done soon as possible, knowing full well he wouldn’t be at the game on Saturday and that it will be a real struggle for him to leave the house or get about for the next couple of weeks.

“But what it does is gives him the best chance to be available for the first day of pre-season, which is vitally important to Joe but also to us.”
