Nathan Jones praises Gassan Ahadme double and says Matty Godden is answering questions raised by Alfie May departure

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones heaped praise on his strike force after a 4-0 triumph at Walsall in the FA Cup.

Under fire forward Gassan Ahadme bagged a brace at the Bescot Stadium, with starting strike partner Matty Godden also on target in the first-half.

Ahadme, who has now scored three times in the competition to go with his solitary League One strike away at Shrewsbury, opened the scoring with an impressive header from Conor Coventry’s cross.

He also nodded home Charlton’s third in the dying stages, extending the two-goal lead that Matty Godden’s eighth strike of the campaign had opened before the half-hour mark.

Tyreece Campbell rounded off the scoring late on.

Former Ipswich Town Ahadme man was thrusted towards the away end by his teammates at full-time to take the acclaim of the travelling supporters.

“It really is [big for Ahadme],” said Jones.

“He got a bit of stick, missed a big chance last week that could have got us a point away at Huddersfield with 10 men. But he’s a great kid, works hard. As dedicated an individual as you’ve ever seen. A bit eccentric, but we like that.

“We brought him here so that when we do put balls in and we do play how we can play, he’s one of the best technicians in terms of heading that I’ve ever worked with. I’m delighted for him.

“Delighted for Godden to get another goal because there were a few questions about letting Alfie (May) go and bringing in Godden but we’re very happy with what we’ve got.

“TC needed a goal and he’s got a goal.”
