Man charged with rape in Southwark after police appeal

A man has been charged with the rape of a woman in Southwark following an appeal for information.

Eleas Alfa Patience Godwin, 43, of no fixed address was charged on October 22 with rape and actual bodily harm.

On October 15 a woman contacted police after she was raped at around 03:00hrs in Tibetan Peace Gardens, Lambeth Road.

Godwin has been remanded in custody to appear at Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court on October 23.

A police statement said: “His arrest and charge follows an appeal issued on Monday, 22 October and we would like to thank the media and members of the public for their assistance.”
