Book Reviews with Pauline Atkins: Starter Villain by John Scalzi

Hello South London Book Lovers.

Hands up all of you that absolutely love a good villain book!!

Well, I will be honest here and admit that I haven’t seen too many James Bond movies apart from those that included Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan, but that was mainly because I absolutely love those actors, not because I liked James Bond, I was always drawn to the bad guy! Why is that?

Maybe because there is always an underlying storyline as to why he became bad in the first place.

So, let’s get back to the storyline of this villain book, Starter Villain by the New York Times bestselling Author John Scalzi.

Charlie Fitzer, a young newly divorced, unemployed Chicago Tribune business reporter that has an uncanny ability to find local stray cats, hears on the CNBC Squawk Box Morning Show that his estranged billionaire Uncle has just died.

Charlie last saw his uncle, at his mother’s funeral, when he was five but never knew why his grieving father refused to explain why he was no longer in their lives.

Later that day he returns home, from a failed meeting with a loans officer from his bank, to discover a very expensive car sitting outside his house and a strange woman making herself at home on his porch.

His uncle had requested Charlie represent him at his memorial service, welcoming the mourners and accepting their condolences and for doing that, he would receive compensation.

Only, Charlie’s uncle is not the usual run of the mill billionaire uncle, he has a few secrets, and a few enemies and Charlie has now become a new person of interest.

The book had me hooked from page one and if I had the chance, I probably would have finished this in a day but three days later and I’m telling everyone I know “you have got to read this book”.

There are a few surprises, a few unusual animals, cats, whales, and dolphins, say no more, just read it for yourselves.
