Brixton boxing coach kicks off new community podcast
PieceMAKERS, a brand-new podcast series shining a light on the voices of grassroots leaders making meaningful change, has launched.
This monthly series will address critical issues through the inspiring stories, insights, and initiatives of communities.
In its first episode, released on Wednesday, Bobby Mills, head coach at Brixton’s Afewee boxing gym, joined hosts Max and Chan to discuss his journey.
Mr Mills notes the role club sports play in transforming lives and empowering young people and building safer, stronger neighborhoods.
Each episode will invite a new guest to discuss their work and approach to engaging young people in South London.
The podcast has been launched in association with Brixton based Make It Stop campaign – an initiative tackling knife crime and youth violence.
Make It Stop was founded by Pastor Lorraine Jones, the mother of Dwayne Simpson who was fatally stabbed in 2014, alongside former South London lawyer Romilla Arber.
To accompany the podcast’s launch, Make It Stop has produced a short film which delves into the devastating effects of knife crime and the power of grassroots action.
PieceMAKERS will be available on all major streaming platforms.
