The perfect treat for Mother’s Day

Don’t miss the opportunity to spoil your mother on Sunday, March 14.

It’s a shame that Mother’s Day comes before outside dining is allowed once more, as of April 12.

However, South London is awash with at-home options to give everyone a break from the kitchen.

Here are our top picks. Grazing platters are all the rage and The Plattery sends them nationwide from its Brixton outpost.

It certain feels nicer to support local businesses in the current climate.

Beautifully presented, revealing the contents that can only be described as a smorgasbord of treats.

The Charcuterie box combines smoked salmon blinis to start, followed by an indulgent selection of charcuterie, cheeses, dried fruit, nuts, crudités, and chutney, adorned with fresh grapes.

There are plenty of oatcakes just waiting to be dressed. There were also white and dark chocolate dipped strawberries and two canned cocktails from Punchy Drinks.

The Mexican looks rather moreish. Tortilla chips with guacamole and salsa, beef or three bean carnitas, with plenty of yummy sides, like chargrilled corn-on-the-cob, sweet spiced potato fries, blackened peppers, mixed nuts, caramelised jalapenos, medjool dates and mixed olives.

There are lots of vegetarian boxes available also.

Postal platters are priced starting at £35 plus delivery (for x2) and are available nationwide to purchase from

Delicious food from The Plattery

Popularity of the most quintessentially English of all meals, afternoon tea, has soared in the past few years but none more so than during lockdown.

We’re not talking the big hotels, which used to corner the market, but at-home bakers and makers, compiling spreads fit for high society.

Streatham-based Mother Nature Grazing Company is putting a smile on people’s faces with its Afternoon Tea Box for two, four and six so it can be a treat for Mum and someone else or the whole family to enjoy.

A selection of hand crafted sweet and savoury items are sure to delight.

The buttermilk scones are mega and savouries made from scratch, include dainty sandwiches cut into triangles, with fillings like smoked salmon, tarragon chicken and cheese and basil pesto.

There are also home-made mini quiches and sausage rolls included.

Cake of the day and chocolate brownies are always rich and indulgent.

The box comes beautifully decorated with scattered strawberries and flowers, making it a feast for the eyes, even before you taste a morsel.

Choose between herbivore or carnivore box. You can also order a bottle of pink champagne.

Prices start from £42 for two. Delivery is available all over South London and parts of Surrey.

Orders taken before 4pm can be delivered the next day but advance booking for Mother’s Day will be necessary.

A grazing box especially for kids is packed full of home-made goodies, a mix of wholesome and healthy with fun and tasty treats that little people will love.

The pub roast experience will be much missed this year and while there’s not a chance of enjoying it at your local, a few will bring the dish to you.

The Mere Scribbler and all other pubs in the Livelihood Group have hatched a plan to do just this and all to honour the most important woman in your life.

Pre-prepared roasts can be pre-ordered for delivery on Saturday, March 13, ready to pop in the oven and heated through on the big day.

It comes with a bottle of Champagne and so your mum can enjoy a glass while she waits for lunch to be served.

The Family Feast For Four starts with a sharing Camembert, followed by the humorously named Swingers’ Roast, combining all choices of pork belly, vegan and wellington.

All the trimmings are also included – crispy roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, roast veg, huge Yorkshire Puddings and lashings of homemade gravy finish the deal. Pudding is chocolate fondant.

Cost is £25 per person. Orders can be placed via

Waiting in for a delivery isn’t much fun. Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses Letterbox Cheese delivers a selection through the front door, making it the perfect present for cheese-loving mums.

Perfectly sized to fit straight through the letterbox (including chill packs to keep fresh), gifts don’t come much more hassle-free than this.

We like the look of the Cheese & Gin box – Blacksticks Blue, Button Mill and Creamy Lancashire, with fig relish and crackers, plus a nice little gin miniature.

The letterbox cheese shop is available online at https://letterbox.
