80 students evacuated from accommodation after fire breaks out

Around 80 people were evacuated from their student accommodation block after a fire ripped through a kitchen on the fifth floor, last night.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled the blaze in Tinworth Street in Lambeth.

Part of a fifth-floor communal kitchen was damaged by the fire.

There were no reports of any injuries, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.

The LFB was called at around 6.30pm and the fire was under control by around 7.45pm.

Firefighters from Lambeth, Soho, Clapham and Dowgate fire stations attended the scene.

A spokesman from the LFB said: “The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by a fault in an extractor fan.”
