Bank holiday confirmed for Queen Elizabeth II funeral

A bank holiday has been confirmed by King Charles III for the day of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, which is expected to take place on Monday September 19.

The date of the funeral is yet to be confirmed.

A proclamation will appoint the day of the Queen’s funeral as a bank holiday across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

King Charles III has now signed it – approving the bank holiday.

The Queen will be reunited with her parents, sister and Prince Philip, her husband of 73 years, in her final resting place at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Although Westminster Abbey was for centuries the usual burial place for kings and queens, more sovereigns over the past 300 years have been interred in the chapel at Windsor.
