Bromley and Croydon pop choir will perform their own song with X-Factor star Leona Lewis at Childline concert

A pop choir has written and released an original Christmas single to raise money for charity – which reached number 52 in the UK iTunes charts on its first day of release.

Singers from PopVox choirs in Bromley and Croydon have remotely recorded an uplifting holiday song called ‘Sing it Out!’, written by the choir’s director Emma Nowell.

The song not only has a message of positivity in these challenging times, but also will have a real impact by raising money for Childline.

Choir leader Suzie Tidy said the project has been great to keep choir members’ spirits up in recent months too.

She said: “We wanted something positive for the choir to focus on. It’s been quite a tough time for everybody and we wanted something to lift spirits and we thought what better way to do it than a charity single?

“It’s designed to be uplifting. It’s quite an encouraging song. The lyrics are about keeping going and that we are here for each other and we can get through this time and I think it’s really pertinent because singing does release endorphins and it does bring people together as a community.

“We are hopefully going to raise lots of money for Childline. That’s the hope!”

The choirs have been rehearsing online since March and recorded the single at a studio in Bromley with individual time slots.

The song will also be appearing in Childline’s annual Merry Little Christmas event, which will be held online on December 10.

Their Christmas song and video will be shown alongside performances by X-factor winner Leona Lewis, magician Ben Hanlin and BBC Young Chorister of the year Anna Haestrup.
