Lemar Urquhart: Drill rapper shot eight times in Brixton driving car that killed Deliveroo driver

An inquest has heard that the Drill rapper Lemar Urquhart, who was shot and killed in Brixton, was also the driver of the car that killed Deliveroo driver Guilherme Messias Da Silva.

The inquest at Inner South London Coroner’s Court heard that 27-year-old Mr Urquhart, also known as Perm, and son of Dillian Whyte’s boxing promoter, Dean Whyte, was shot eight times in Railton Road on October 30.

The white MG car he was driving was the one that hit Mr Da Silva, 23, who was in the area making his last delivery of the day.

Met Detective Inspector Jason Fitzpatrick told the inquest the gunman was still at large.

Appearing at the inquest opening this week, he said: “The occupants of a grey Alfa Romeo, both the driver and the suspect who shot Mr Urquhart, have yet to be identified.

“Investigations are ongoing into identifying those responsible. Identifying the suspects involved is proving difficult at the moment,” he told coroner Dr Julian Morris.

The white MG hit Mr Da Silva’s moped head-on during the incident, the inquest heard, before Mr Urquhart and a passenger ran off.

They were then chased by a passenger from the back of the Alfa Romeo, who opened fire.

Det Insp Fitzpatrick said he had spoken to Mr Da Silva’s mother in Brazil via an interpreter, with the family “very keen to have the body repatriated as soon as possible”.

Earlier this month, Mr Da Silva’s mother Rosângela Messias de Sousa, 46, said: “I went into despair, screamed, fainted. It’s very sad, my heart is bleeding. It hurts everything.”

She told TV news channel G1 Goias that her son was “cheerful, outgoing and smiling”.

His stepfather, Cirilo Antonio Machado, 66, added of Mr Da Silva’s death: “They hit him at the time of his escape.

“He was very polite, sweet, full of friendships and hard-working.”

A tribute paid to Mr Da Silva on social media, written in Brazilian and translated into English, described “a humble and hard-working boy” who “lost his life working during a fight between gangs in Brixton”.

“He was fatally hit by the car of the bandits,” the post continued. “This first world country who lots outside see is not just a sea of roses.

“This is a daily fight, far from family, exposed to daily dangers. God comfort family and friends.

“God receives you with open arms, boy!”

Dr Morris said: “I will release both bodies on November 28 so that Mr Da Silva can be repatriated back to Brazil for his family to arrange suitable, as they wish, funeral services, and the same for Mr Urquhart.”

The inquest was adjourned while the police investigation continues.
