Loughborough Farm raising cash for skills workshops to boost people through pandemic

A community food growing project is fundraising for skills and well-being workshops to give a boost to residents during and after the pandemic.

Loughborough Farm wants to support local people to keep healthy in this first Covid-19 winter and to reduce loneliness and isolation.

The project, based in Loughborough Junction, aims to create a greener, healthier and more resilient neighbourhood through various community-focused initiatives.

The money raised will enable the farm to continue its work by running workshops on everything from healthy cooking, DIY and wood carving, fermenting, music, connecting with nature and coping with grief.

It follows successful summer health and well-being workshops, and aims to promote the benefits of healthy eating, time in nature in local parks and open spaces, and socially-distanced neighbourhood outreach on local estates.

Funds will allow Loughborough Farm to continue growing vegetables for the
community with surplus used at a sister project, The Platform Cafe, in Ridgeway, Brixton, which provides free meals for residents in need.

A successful fundraiser would ensure more growing sessions are possible, and more produce is cultivated.

Loughborough Farm Project Co-ordinator, Emily Myers, said: “We recognise that this year has been a challenge – an isolating and hard time for people’s well-being.

“Loughborough Farm wants to support people’s physical and mental health during these coming winter months, and we really need your support to help us run our winter workshops and nurture the growing work we do through the Covid winter and beyond.”
