Man rescued from Croydon fire that ‘destroyed’ first floor flat

A man was rescued from a blaze that ripped through the first floor of a block of flats last night.

Four fire engines and about 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a block of flats in Cabot Close, Croydon yesterday evening.

Part of a first floor flat was destroyed by fire. One man was rescued by firefighter crews wearing breathing apparatus and was treated on scene by London Ambulance Service.

The London Fire Brigade was called at around 9.40pm and the fire was under control by about an hour later. Crews from Croydon, Peckham and Norbury fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the London Fire Brigade and the Met.
