Police officer arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the disappearance of Sarah Everard

A serving Met police officer who was arrested last night in connection with the disappearance of Sarah Everard has been further arrested on suspicion of murder and a separate allegation of indecent exposure.

The 33-year-old marketing executive has been missing for almost a week – she went missing after leaving a friend’s house in Clapham at about 9pm on last Wednesday.

The man, who is aged in his 40s, was arrested on the evening of Tuesday on suspicion of kidnap.

The man known to be a serving Metropolitan Police officer.

He now remains in custody at a London police station.

A woman, who is aged in her 30s, was also arrested on the evening of last night on suspicion of assisting an offender.

She also remains in custody.

Officers are searching locations in London and Kent including a property in Deal and an area of woodland near Ashford.

Following the arrest of the police officer, the Metropolitan Police has made a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Everard has not been seen since she left a friend’s home in Clapham, on the evening of March 3.

She left the home in Leathwaite Road through a back gate onto the A205 South Circular to walk home by herself to Brixton, about 50 minutes away on foot.

The last known sighting of her was on Poynders Road, part of the South Circular Road, which links the two areas, where she was captured on film by a private door camera as she walked alone from the junction at Cavendish Road in the direction of Tulse Hill.
